Following the death of his mother, Chris vowed that he would always be there to fight other people's corners.

Personal experiences can be a powerful motivator for some people, and this is certainly true in Chris’ case. Through his mother’s illness, Chris witnessed firsthand the battles that many people face in securing the financial support that they are entitled to in times of need, and this changed his outlook on life as well as his business.

“At the age of 35, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. The diagnosis was followed by 7 years of illness, and I can remember well the trips to the hospital and the feelings of helplessness that came with it.

After she passed away, my father claimed on the mortgage insurance they’d taken out to the sum of £10,000, only to be refused.

The insurance company, in an attempt to avoid payment, said my mother had been to the doctors beforehand and therefore knew about the cancer and had failed to disclose it.

In actual fact, my mother had visited the doctor for something totally unrelated, but the insurance pay-out never came, leaving my father and I in a very difficult financial position. We had no one to help us... no one to fight our corner... and that’s a feeling I’ll never forget.

And it’s a feeling that will NEVER happen to my clients. I’m absolutely driven to make sure everyone is protected by a will and the right life policy, and I’ll do all I can to assist anyone needing help.”

Chris is more than a financial adviser; he is a well-respected, caring, and knowledgeable individual who does not want anybody else to suffer in the way that he and his father did.

Well, where do I start?

40 years ago, I never thought I’d be here and telling you my 'why'.

I married, raised a family, and had a great life. In 2014, I had a chat with a business friend, and he said, 'Start your own company.' I said no, never!

Here I am! Believing in the future and what it may bring.

I have had children and loved it; I watched them grow and take their chances in life.

Recently, 2 of my children have had their trials tested, and it has reminded me of my 'why'.

It’s about strength, growth, belief, trust, and honesty. I value this in Chris and my colleagues.

Being able to have a strong belief in my why has given me the ability to get on in life.

So here is the why: last year one of my daughters went to Italy with her partner and their family. While they were away, her partner had a stroke aged 39. Caused due to an injury to one of the arteries in his neck.

Stuck in Italy with a four-month-old baby until nearly Christmas 2022 before she could get back to the UK.

He did not have any critical illness in place. Over the last year, not only has my daughter had to continue to pay a mortgage on her house, she has had to cut her maternity leave short and has saddled herself with another large loan to make ends meet for the family.

My youngest daughter has had diabetes type 1 from a young age and has had various challenges with ulcers on her legs and feet. coupled with being in plaster on and off with a diabetic fracture.

Before Christmas this year, she is facing the devastation of a half-leg amputation.

She has in place a policy that, even though it was primarily bought for the event of an accident, she now has qualified her illness element.

Her hospital stay will be covered while she says goodbye to her lower right leg, and even though this will never compensate her for her lost limb, she will have a lump sum benefit paid.

The benefit payment will just make life easier while she recovers and may even buy a lightweight wheelchair that will give her the ability to move herself around.

My point is that when she is well enough, she can maintain her independence.

I firmly believe that everyone should have some cover. We all insure our cars, our homes, even our mobile phones; we never consider 'what might happen to me?'

Even the smallest amount of cover can make a real difference should the time come.
